COMPULSORY INSPECTION ATTRIBUTES

MASTER_ID: an auto-generated record identifier.

SPECIES_CODE: the 4-digit code of the species based on the English name.

Species Name: The English name of the species or subspecies.

KILL_LONG_DESC: The description of the kill type, or how the animal was killed.  Options are: 'ANIMAL CONTROL', 'HUNTER', 'ILLEGAL KILL', 'OLD MOUNT', 'PICKUP', 'RAIL KILL', 'ROAD KILL', 'TRAPPER'

KILL_DATE: The reported date of the kill: yyyymmdd.

Year: The year of the kill, derived from the KILL_DATE. 

Decade: The decade of the kill, derived from the KILL_DATE. 

SEX: the sex of the animal: male (M), female (F), or unknown (U).

Region: the region number, derived from the MU_CODE. 

MU_CODE: the 3-digit Management Unit code prefixed by the Region number.

Note: There may be errors in the reported Management Unit (MU), particularly in records prior to 1990.  For example, it might appear as though an animal was killed in a particular MU, when in fact that species does not occur there.  These errors are typically due to human error in either recording and reporting the MU, or in the transcription of the information from the paper Compulsory Inspection form to the database.

SKULL_LENGTH: the length of the skull in millimetres (mm). Maximum length measurements are taken along the midline of the skull at its longest point. The lower jaw is excluded from the measurement.

SKULL_WIDTH: the width of the skull in millimetres (mm). Maximum width measurements are taken at right angles to the midline of the skull, at its widest point. The lower jaw is excluded from the measurement.

SKULL_TYPE: the status or type of skull: Skinned, Boiled, or Unskinned.

Derived Age: in years, if known. Determined by prioritizing different aging techniques, highest to lowest as follows: 
For Mountain Goat and Sheep: 1) tooth 2) horn 3) wearstain 4) other
For all other species: 1) tooth 2) wearstain 3) other

Age Class: If exact age in years is not known: Juvenile, Adult.
